Mexborough and Swinton Times January 30, 1909
Rotherham v. Swinton.
Rotherham had the Northern Junior champions as visitors for an inter-run from the Clarence, Parkgate, there being a turnout of twenty-nine runners to follow a trail laid by Messrs. Brown and Ward, into the Greasboro’ district, and branching on to the trail to be followed by next week’s monster meet.
This trail, however, was not followed through being left at the Wagon road., Greasboro’, and thence the runners made straight back for Parkgate by way of Mangham.
R. Dunning, of Swinton, running in splendid fashion, was an easy first. He was, however, followed by four Rotherham runners, who also had the seventh man and thus won easily by 16 points.
The placings were as follows:
Rotherham: H. Sharp 2, R. Evans 3, Eph. Rockett 4, H. Wilcock 5, Ed. Rockett 7, total 21;
Swinton: R. Dunning 1, A. T. Howitt 6, W. A. Hobson (picture) 9, Whaley 10, J. Smith 11, total 37.
