Golden Wedding
Swinton Couple at Haxey
Saturday is the fiftieth anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. William Thompson, who reside at The Nooking, Haxey. They were married at Swinton Church.
Mr. Thompson is a native of the Isle of Axholme, having been born at The Turbary, Belton.
He was the youngest son of the late Mr. Charles Thompson. He learned the trade of plumber and sanitary engineer at Swinton, where he lived for ten years. Then he went to Mexborough, where he commenced business on his own account, and remained there for thirty years. For fifteen years he was a member of the Mexborough Fire Brigade. He has been a good supporter and a subscriber to the Montagu Hospital, Mexborough.
Mr. Thompson retired from business in 1914. Mr. and Mrs. Thompson have lived at Haxey about eighteen years. Their ages are 72 and 73 respectively. Mrs. Thompson is a native of Mexborough. They have one son, two daughters and one grandchild.
