Tiny Teapot Sent From Swinton to Empire Exhibition
The Rockingham China which has been sent to the Empire Exhibition as explained in the accompanying article. The size of the pieces can be gauged by comparing them with the half-crown and penny in the foreground.
At their pavilion at the Glasgow Exhibition the Empire Tea Marketing Bureau are showing a number of appliances used in the production and consumption of the national beverage. A contemporary has initiated an informal competition with the object of recording the smallest teapot and while this is in progress, examples reminding of the past glories of Swinton may be auctioned.
The exquisite little tea service we illustrate was made at the Rockingham Pottery between the years 1830 and 1842, and it is already at Glasgow, having been loaned by a local collector.
