Swinton Constable’s Family to Follow Him Back

P.C. Vincent Frederick Egan, whose family have lived at 1, Police House, Piccadilly Road, Swinton for nearly two years, has been spending a month’s leave with his family at Swinton during the past few weeks. He is to return to Larnaca, Cyprus, on Tuesday, where he has been stationed for 13 months.

Mr. Egan’s family, his wife, Mrs. Joan Egan and three children, June (11), Malcolm (9) and Michael (4) are to follow him to Larnaca in a few weeks’ time and are to stay out there for 21 months.

After serving 10 months with Swinton Police, Mr. Egan volunteered to go with the first unit of the West Riding County Police to Cyprus where there has been a lot of trouble during the past 18 months.

This week Mr. Egan told a “South Yorkshire Times” reporter that on r the first night he arrived in Larnaca there was a murder and during the whole time he has been out there he has been connected with very dangerous work.

Only a few months ago Mr. Egan was presented with the Meritorious Service Award for finding a Cypriot planning to blow up a bridge.

When asked about social life in Larnaca, Mr. Egan said there were cinemas and cabarets, but few people went to the cinema because it was so easy to get shot there. Mr. Egan said the beach was wonderful
