South Yorkshire Times July 20th 1937
We deeply regret to record the death, which occurred suddenly at “The Beeches,” Swinton on Tuesday of Mrs. Lucy Amadio Ensor, widow of Mr. Herbert Ensor.
Mrs. Ensor who would have celebrated her 81st birthday next week, was the sister in-law of Mr. W. P. Turner with whom she had made her home since the death of her sister, the late Mrs. W. P. Turner.
Before coming to Swinton, Mrs Ensor and her husband lived for several years at Baslow, where they moved after Mr Ensor’s retirement he was a senior official of the North Eastern Railway Company and came from a family with close and distinguished associations with the Army. After seeing service in the Boer War, Mr. Ensor was with the Durham Light infantry throughout the first Great War, retiring with the rank of Major. He died some 15 years ago. He was a brother of the late Major General Howard Ensor.
During her residence in Swinton Mrs. Ensor had made many friends and had given warm-hearted service to many social and charitable organisations. She was an honorary life “Vice-President of Baslow branch of the British Legion. She interested herself in Mr. Turner’s voluntary work on behalf of the local hospital and other causes and her cheerful companionship had been greatly valued by him.
