Scouts of Former Days
This photograph of the 1st. Swinton troop of Boy Scouts shows the troop shortly after the formation, camping at Hooton Pagnell in 1912.
Some of the croup fell in the war, others have drifted out of touch, but several were able to be present at the re-union dinner on Friday. From left to right,
the scouts are (standing):—Messrs. H. Wrigley, Lewis Adsett, Captain M. Tyas, George V. Woods, Ralph Bisson (holding shield), Norman Wardle, C. Wood, the Rev. T. G. Rogers. Messrs. Albert Hayes, W. Woods, W. B. Williams, Denis Arnold, and Ernest Adams; (sitting or kneeling) Cyril Haigh (now a vicar in Durham), Kime, H Connor, Joe Cooper and Tyas Guest.
The shield in the picture is the ‘Nuttall’ Shield for scoutcraft which first appeared for competition in that year and was immediately won by the Swinton troop.
This photograph has been length to lives by Mr. W. B. Williams.
