Private JW Dale
(Northumberland Fusiliers)
Mr and Mrs Arthur Dale, of Station Street, Swindon, have just had a sad experience.
Their son, private JW Dale (Northumberland Fusiliers), joined the forces in November 1914, was wounded in the “big push” of July, return to the trenches on September 25th, when he received further wounds, which resulted in his death in October 18, 1916.
Private Dale’s father and mother were sent a permit to visit their son in France. They went on Tuesday week, only to find when they arrived on Wednesday morning that their son had succumbed.
The grief was somewhat relieved by the very kind reception they received at the hands of the Y.M.C.A. authorities, who took entire charge of them whilst in France. Every convenience and comfort were given them.
Mrs Dale states that their son was well looked after and given a beautiful resting place, with a cross bearing his name. Other graves were in excellent condition, and not one was without flowers or neglected.
Private JW Dale will be remembered as a ripper at Manvers Main number three pit.
Mrs Dale speaks in terms of high praise of the Y.M.C.A. work.
