Private Albert Gwynette, 63, Station Street, Swinton, won the DCM by coolness shown on the field of battle.
Under heavy fire he buried the dead and rescued and bandaged a number of wounded men. Subsequently he had the misfortune to lose his medal, and the attention of the King having been directed his loss,
His Majesty was pleased to direct that another medal B/4 Cpl Wynette, who in addition, gained the honorary but coveted rank of Kings Corporal.
