In the U.S. Army
Private Louis Oliver, 26th Texas Light Infantry, (U.S.A.)
Private Oliver, formerly of Rowms Lane, Swinton, after years of travel as a sea going styeward, joined the 26th Texas Infantry, U.S.A.
In a letter to his parents, Oliver says he has just landed back from a long hunting trip, and had shot 6 rabbits, one quail and an eagle.
At present the patrols are operating against banditti, who have done much damage to railways.
Oliver was formerly a glassworker at Mexborough.
