Gas Board Chairman

At the annual meeting of the Gas Board on Monday Councillor F. J. Wilkinson was appointed chairman in succession to Councillor W. Chappell who has held the position two years.

Mr. Wilkinson has served on the Board since he became a councillor four years ago. Councillor G. Bramhan. of Mexborough was appointed vice-chairman. Swinton, by virtue of its larger consumption of gas, has the right to appoint a chairman, but there has never been strict insistence on the right.

During Mr. Wilkinson’s term of office a much greater industrial consumption is anticipated and this year should be one of the most successful of postwar years. It is expected that Manvers Main will be in a position to meet an increased demand in the new year and that Dale, Brown’s Glass Works will be supplied.
