Ten Wickets Win For Swinton

Hickleton were thoroughly mastered at Swinton on Wednesday when the home team won ten wickets. Alban Turner and Charlie Overton launched the Hickleton innings in a manner which showed plainly enough that there was to be no repetition of Monday’s debacle. Turner settled down to get runs steadily but did not stand long enough to prove a real source of danger to Swinton, being clean bowled by Sam Cutts when he had made 33. Cutts thus made himself responsible for the dismissal of the opening pair, Overton falling to a catch by Senior off his bowling. After the departure of Overton and Turner. neither Cyril nor Reg. Probert could stem the collapse which young Cutts and Raymond Denton brought about and none of the remaining Hickleton batsmen could take his individual score as high ten. The result was that they were all out for 73 and Cutts and Denton finished with flattering figures. The former had 5 for 29 and Denton in 5.3 overs had 5 for 15. Eight of the Hickleton batsmen were clean bowled.

Charlie Heaton got going in his best style when Swinton went in and was not long in reaching his 50, hitting half a dozen fours and two sixes. Denton assisted him to knock off the runs, both players carrying out their bats with the score at 61 for none, all the efforts of the Hickleton bowlers being in vain.
