A wedding of unusual interest was solemnised at St. Margaret’s, Swinton, on Tuesday, when Miss Beatrice Sutcliffe, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a gown of deep ivory satin, modelled on medieval lines, with a charming veil of net and silver lace lent by Mrs. Crossland. She also wore pearls and carried a shower bouquet of pink roses. The bridesmaids, Miss Dora Sutcliffe (sister of the bride), Miss J. Bachelor (Collingham. The bride’s mother wore wine-coloured crepe de Chine, with yoke and sleeves of oyster petit point lace and a velvet hat to tone. She carried a shower bouquet of cream roses. The bridegroom’s gifts to the bridesmaids were pearls (to Miss Sutcliffe), a handbag (to Miss Bachelor) and a bracelet (to Miss Wilkinson). On leaving the church the bride was presented with a gold Girl Guide badge by Miss Oliver, present Captain of the ‘Swinton company. Outside the west door a guard of honour consisting of Girl Guides awaited the couple.
Among the many presents received was a Pyrex dish in a silver stand engraved into the form of a Girl Guide badge and suitably inscribed. A dinner service was also received from the staff of the Swinton National School. The bridegroom was presented with a walnut coffee table from the managers, staff and scholars of the Kilnhurst National School. He also received an ornamental jug, vase and lemonade set from the Armthorpe Dramatic Society.
After the ceremony a reception was held at the Masonic Hall, Swinton. Later Mr. and Mrs. Wilkinson left for a honeymoon tour of Scotland, the bride travelling in blue Harris tweed and white felt hat.
The bride was formerly a member of the teaching staff of Swinton National School. In recent years she has been deeply interested in the Girl Guide movement and has been associated with the Swinton company as Captain. The bridegroom is headmaster of the Kilnhurst National School and a popular member of the Kilnhurst Cricket Club. Mr. Wilkinson is also keen on art and drama, and served the Armthorpe Dramatic Society as producer when he was on the staff of the Armthorpe Middle School.
