Astride An Elephant

The man astride the elephant is Pte. Jack Nicholls, of 45, Church Street, Swinton. The picture was taken in Ceylon, where Nicholls has been stationed for two years.

Elephants are playing a useful part in the Far East campaign and will be used to a far greater extent in the near future.

Pte. Nicholls has two brothers, Frank and Herbert, serving with the 8th Army in Italy.
