Seaman Killed

Mr. and Mrs. W. Speight, 53, Brookfield Avenue, Swinton, were this week informed officially that their son A.B. William Speight (19) was killed on August 27th.  He had previously been reported missing.

A.B. Speight served in a mine sweeper which helped to clear minefields off the French coast for the D-Day landings and had returned to duty after eight weeks furlough only a week before he was killed.

He volunteered for duty with the Royal Navy before his eighteenth birthday.

His brother Charles is serving with the Army in Italy.
