Damages for Swinton Miner Hurt in Colliery
A 22-Years-Old Swinton miner was awarded £250 damages at Rotherham County Court on Wednesday after Judge Ernest Ould decided that injuries he sustained in a roof fall were due to negligence.
The N.C.B. against whom the action was brought were ordered to pay costs.
Awarding the damages to Harold Dungworth of 4, Lime Grove, Swinton, Judge Ould said that the accident occurred on August 20th 1958 when Dungworth was working with a team of rippers in Kilnhurst Colliery.
Dungworth was claiming f400 damages from the N.C.B. for Personal injuries on the grounds of negligence and breaches of statutory duty.
The Judge said plaintiff had not been severely injured and although he had been off work for about 12 weeks, had been able to go back to his job as a ripper after a few weeks.
