Swinton Man’s Alleged Attack on Child Too
A charge of having attempted to murder his wife at 5 a.m. on Wednesday by stabbing her on the head with a two-pronged carving fork, was preferred against Maxwell Everton (32), labourer, 51, Charles Street, Swinton, at Rotherham on Wednesday.
Everton was also charged with having attempted to wound his eleven months’ old child, Elizabeth.
P.c. Noble said that at 6.30 that morning be apprehended prisoner at Swinton and cautioned and charged him with stabbing his wife with intent to murder her. He replied. “I had a sudden pain come into my head. I did not know what I was doing.” Everton was also charged with attempting to wound his child, and to this charge he made no reply.
Inspector Holey asked for a remand in custody until Tuesday.
Mr. Townend (the magistrate): Have you any objection to the remand?
Everton: No, not at all.
Everton was accordingly remanded.
Gladvs Everton, the wife, was conveyed to the Montagu Hospital with wounds on her head and face, and is reported to be progressing favourably.
Mrs. Everton was removed on Wednesday from the Montagu Hospital to the Alma Road Infirmary. Rotherham and last night was reported to be comfortable.
