Swinton  29 for 5                                              Brightside  26

Belk 18*                                                               Belk 5-13, Athey 5-9

Swinton pursued a successful course on Saturday, when on their own ground, they play skittles with the visitors wickets.

The ground had been damp, and therefore was good for the bowlers. When the Swinton men went in it seemed as though they might, notwithstanding the small score against them, be defeated, for five wickets rapidly fell, the score standing simply at 10.

But the six-man, Belk, went in to stay, and knocked off the winning number. Belk also took five wickets for 13 runs while Athey took five for nine runs. The Swinton innings was played in very bad light. One of the visa received a nasty cut under the eye from a ball by Belk, and had to be removed to the station in a cab, after been attended to by Doctor Blythman.
