Jumping from a Bedroom Window at Swinton

On Sunday, Hannah Shaw aged 55, wife of Alfred Shaw, of Walker St, Swinton, died from injuries to the head.

A fortnight ago the woman was suffering from disease of the brain jumped from the chamber window of her house, falling a distance of 13 feet. She was carried into the house and medically attended by Doctor English, of Mexborough. She had suffered from disease of the brain for a period of 10 weeks.

An inquest was held on Tuesday afternoon at the Ship Inn, before Mr Wightman and a jury.

The following verdict was returned:

“Accidentally killed by a fall from a bedroom window 29 May.”

The mortal remains of the deceased were interred at Saint Margaret’s Church, Swinton on Wednesday.
