Missing in Abyssinia
Former Swinton School Boy
Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Whitfield, of the Keeper’s Cottage, Frickley, are anxious to obtain more news of their son, Private Jack Whitfield, who has been posted as missing since January 21st, 1941, when he was taking part in the fighting in Abyssinia against the Italians.
Mr. Whitfield writes: “We have made many enquiries, but the most hopeful result is from Jack’s Sergeant-Major, who says nothing was found of Jack, who may have been taken prisoner.
If this should catch the eye of any of his friends who were with him at the time we shall be more than grateful for any information sent to us.”
Jack was an old scholar of Fitzwilliam School, Swinton, and had been apprenticed at Earl Fitzwilliam’s building yard, Wentworth, is a joiner and carpenter.”
