Early Promotion

Sergeant Norman Bate, third son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Bate, of Queen Street, Swinton, has quickly obtained promotion in his Army career. He joined the Coldstream Guards in 1937 and early in the present this struggle he saw service with the British Expeditionary Force in France. In August last year he was transferred to the Welsh Guards and at present he is back again in England and holds the rank of Sergeant Drill Instructor.

Sergt. Bate was engaged as a steel erector before taking up the Army as a career.
